We had the other style fence with the wire “in ground”, but at our current house that was going to be a difficult install (cross a driveway etc.) plus it would not be easy to move/adjust the location if it did not work out. This unit solves that. As long as the site for the base unit (in the house) is not below grade ( the signal is blocked by dense objects like the ground – duh) and your yard area is fairly flat this unit works perfectly. A dial allows adjustment for the range (roughly a circle around the unit. The collar eats batteries – my only minor issue, wish we had a rechargeable one.

Bought this from the local pet store and it does exactly what I needed. Quick setup and no need to run any wires underground. I like the fact that it is portable and I can take it with me when I visit family so that my dog understands where he can go and not go even in foreign territory. The collars that come with this are very sturdy as well.

I have 2 very large dogs and this is a GREAT device. I plugged it in, set up the flags, worked with my dogs a couple of days to get them familiar with the warning sound and then let them loose. They both got corrected ONCE and only ONCE. The 1st time I mowed the lawn I removed the flags and did not need to put them back, the dogs quickly learned the warning tone and immediately turn around. A positive is that it continues to correct until the dog returns to the safe zone; it is not like other units that stop correcting the dog once it breaks the correction line. Another positive is that I can just unplug it and take it with me when I travel because all I have to do is plug it in and put on the collars and we are ready to go. Batteries are expensive but whenever I take off the collar, I remove the battery. My dogs learned very quickly that when the collar goes on and the warning tone sounds they need to turn around and they do.

We purchased this product a couple of months ago for two dogs. One a Jack Russell who would take off running away every time she was let out. The second dog was a black lab who we considered willful. These dogs learned within two days where the boundaries were on the 2nd correction level; we were sure it would take the last level and weeks of training with these two dogs. I wish we had bought this product years ago. Now our dogs can go out and walk around the yard and play with the children. The 90 ft. radius is actually quite a big space. We even took it with us on vacation with us and lowered the radius so our dogs could walk around outside our beach house.

This product works much better than the manufacturer claims. It is also more flexible in terms of terrain following, and can be configured in many more units than their staff claims. I have over twice the number of transmitters configured than the mfgr claims is possible, and it works great.
